In Which Cases Indian Need Vietnam Visa?
1/ Are Indians exempted from visa when visiting Phu Quoc ?
Phu Quoc is a popular tourist destination in Vietnam. It is known for its beaches, temples, and traditional fishing villages. Phu Quoc National Park covers over half of the island and is home to a variety of rare flora and fauna.
From 2005, Prime Minister Vietnam sign the document to make Phu Quoc as special economic zone, and all foreign tourist are not required visa when visiting this island, including Indians.
However, the visa exemption is only applicable to Indians who travel to and from Phu Quoc on international flights. For Indian tourists combine their Phu Quoc trip with visiting mainland Vietnam, they still need to apply Vietnam visa.
From 2023, this visa exemption policy is still remained. Indians still can travel to Phu Quoc for a 30-day free-visa policy.
2/ Phu Quoc Island Now Open to Tourism to welcome Indian tourists.
Phu Quoc Island was the first Vietnamese destination to welcome back overseas travelers—fully vaccinated tourists have been able to visit since November 2021.
Entry restrictions for Phu Quoc Island are now in line with the rest of the country. Vietnam reopened to tourism in March 2023 and all COVID-19 restrictions in Vietnam were lifted in May.
3/ Do Indians Need a Visa to Travel to Phu Quoc island?
Indians do not need a visa if they are visiting only Phu Quoc and do not wish to see any other areas of Vietnam.
To take advantage of the visa exemption, travelers must either fly directly to Phu Quoc from outside Vietnam.
Indian passport holders must have an onward flight ticket to prove the stay is less than 30 days.
Indians who will head to mainland Vietnam after their stay on Phu Quoc island must apply visa before entering Vietnam. Phu Quoc visa exemption is for Phu Quoc island only. If Indian nationals want to travel from Phu Quoc to any other places in Vietnam, they must apply visa in advance.
Travelers from 82 countries, including the India can now apply online for the Vietnam e-Visa. The online application process is fast and efficient, and no need to visit an embassy or consulate. Therefore, Indian passport holders can apply E-visa before coming to Vietnam easily.
4/ Requirements for Phu Quoc Visa Exemption for Indians
The Phu Quoc Island visa exemption is suitable for Indians who do not intend to visit anywhere else in Vietnam and who meet all the visa exemption requirements.
Indian travelers can get on a plane with final destination Phu Quoc without a visa or approval letter provided they have:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival in Phu Quoc
- An outbound/return ticket to a destination outside Vietnam within 30 days of arrival
- Indian citizens who have ever been extradited from Vietnam in the past are not able to travel to Vietnam without a visa. Individuals on Interpol’s wanted person’s list are also not eligible for the visa exemption.
5/ How to Get Vietnam Visa to Phu Quoc for Indians
Most Indian travelers who visit Phu Quoc Island make the most of the journey by visiting other Vietnamese destinations and, for this reason, require a visa. With the Vietnam e-Visa, Indian tourists can experience the nation’s other highlights including Ha Noi, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh city.
Indian passport holders can apply Vietnam visa online in a few simple steps:
- Complete the Vietnam e-Visa application form
- Pay the E-Visa fees using a debit or credit card
- Submit the application for processing
Vietnam online visa processing is fast and most Indian receive the approved e-Visa within 72 hours. The e-visa is sent directly to the traveler by email, to be printed out and presented to immigration officers at the airport.
Vietnam eVisa for Indian is a single-entry permit valid for 30 days from the date of arrival provided on the E-visa.
Indians can go from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh or another airport in Vietnam, to Phu Quoc using the same single-entry visa provided it is within the 30-day validity period.
6/ Visa Extension in Phu Quoc for Indians
Indian travelers can apply Vietnamese visa extension from Phu Quoc but should begin the process at least 14 days before their visa expires. This is because the passport must be sent to Ho Chi Minh City for processing by the immigration department.
Once the extension has been approved, travelers can either travel to Ho Chi Minh City to collect their passport or the document can be posted back to the island.
In short, Indian passport holders do not need to apply visa if they only visit Phu Quoc island in less than 30 days. For a longer trip or a trip combining other places in Vietnam, Indians must apply visa before the trip.
